2012 Summer Series.. Keep the kids busy on pennies or for Free

 2012 Summer Series
The dog days of summer have arrived and it's time to look for new and creative ways to keep those little ones moving. There are plenty of frugal ways to keep your children entertained during the long summer days.

Don't forget your local library.
Summer reading programs usually
extend through August

Check out your local Vacation Bible School Camps. They usually are free and offer hours of fun and creativity for your children.

Don't forget most local zoos and museums offer FREE DAYS. Check with your local municipality or website for more information on dates and times.

Check your local theaters for summer programs. Most towns will have a theater that offers summer deals.
Lastly something me and the kids enjoy everyday is
celebrating a holiday everyday. We created a calendar and find a holiday or 2 or 3 for each day. We then think of creative ways to honor that holiday. It is really a lot of fun and gets the kids tapped into their creativity because I mostly leave it up to them to decide how we will celebrate
A good place to start CLICK HERE
A quick list
Camping, Hiking, Making homemade chalk and drawing on the sidewalk, riding bikes, making a go cart, creating a outdoor theater and letting the kids design the set and, write the script and create the costumes.Water balloons and so much more.
Ask your kids to use their imaginations and you just go along for the ride. Kids can be pretty ingenious when you give them a chance.

Easy DIY project for Kids (makes life easier on mom)

Kids of every age have an innate desire to doodle. They love to color on your favorite things, your walls, their toys, your toys, their clothes and so many more places. Why not give them a place to doodle over and over again. The super simple doodle desk

Clean your surface well with soap and water
Make sure it is completely dry
Cut, measure and lay out your peel and stick paper
Make sure you unpeel it and smooth it out very slowly at the same time
or you will run into the jumbled mess I did
Hand your kids their markers and let them go to town
Wipes down with a wet cloth

From Trash to Treasure.. Dumpster diving again

This time it was my 13 year old daughter who did the dumpster diving. She came home with this little gem. She pulled it out the other day, ran home and placed it at my feet like she was giving me an offering for her supper haha.. Sorry about the vintage effect. I promise I will change back soon. I have instagram on the brain:)

1. Start with something absolutely rusty and beat up

First I started out by wiping it down. It was completely filled with cobwebs. Yuck.. Then I pounded the front in a bit
Next I gathered my supplies for adding the word HOPE.. Even in the dirtiest things and situations we can find hope if we look for it

Then I added my dirt and flowers and wallah.

How to Stay Organized Blogging

Ok so being the girl with the runaway train in my head, I need to start putting my thoughts into one place, so they do not cruise all over God's creation and I start to confuse the masses.
My mother is right. I operate with run on sentences like blood flowing. I need to take a break between thoughts. I found this amazing Printable to keep my blog organized. You will love it,. Infarrantly Creative. There are so many ideas, I believe will inspire others, I just need to put them into a format others can understand. YES, I am saying that if you could have full access to my mind, you may jump ship. I do not want that. I want you coming back so that you will be blessed by reading and seeing some of the ideas that have literally changed my life. Others, not so much, but yet have inspired me to live each moment with some purpose. On top of all of that I think you will adore this blog.

Inspired to Design. Repurpose an old built in

Many many years back when I was just a little itty bitty little girl, I lived in a rental home in Milwaukee. There, in the basement, was this built in china cabinet. I have no idea how old the thing was but when my parents moved from the place, they literally stripped everything from the basement which included this ugly old built in. My mom stored it in her garage for years. Even when my parents divorced it remained a dead fixture in the corner. When I got married way back when hmm.. about 17 years ago my mom gave it to me. We sanded it down and put a sealant on it and then it became our built in. Still remained a wall fixture because it never had a bottom or backside. Recently when we purchased this foreclosure it was time to get rid of most of our things for space sake. I knew somewhere in my mind there had to be a place for the piece of history. I decided to create an island for my kitchen. I began with deciding the top for it. Initially I thought marble? Laminate? Butcher block? None of that seemed to give me a mental design rush so I decided to purchase some cheap wood, distress it and poly the top for what I call today my masterpiece. I ended up painting the cabinet white and distressing it. I found some old antique style drawer pulls and some rod iron shelf brackets and I went to town.

I started by cleaning the whole cabinet with soap and water. I then removed any hardware and sanded the whole thing down by hand

Measured and with some help from a friend started cutting
Next we added a piece of wainscoting as the backing
Began painting with the cheapest paint I could find. It was a Bogo sale.
Next added my clearanced out hardware from Hobby Lobby. I believe I paid $1.67 a piece for the pulls

Then I distressed the entire thing with a hand sander.
Next I polyurethaned the to.

Lastly we added the little side shelves and the saddle stools which I got off of craigslist; 4 for $30.. I'm so happy with it because instead of dragging everything to the table each night the kids hop up on a stool and I just swing around with the grub:)

Inspired to Garden for the first time

I am beyond excited to plant and tend to my garden this year. As you know I purchased this 1996 mobile home last year for 750 dollars and had to gut it down to the siding except for one room and a closet. The guts of the place, the furnace and water heater were all good to go. Any ways this property is literally in the middle of a cornfield so my backyard is like a field of dreams. I look out at this each morning and am pretty much breathless each and every time. So grateful to the Lord. OK, yessss the renovation project has been more than a nightmare and as for today there is nobody left to help finish the project and all out of funds. I am still going to stay in the Lord and place my trust in Him. That leads me to basically why I started this garden. I knew moving out here would lead to a fresh start for me and the kids so I told myself that this year I would do things I had never done, venture into places I had never gone and sore heights I never imagined attainable. Yes I know I practically sound like a super hero,  so here we go lol... I need to keep moving forward whether the house is done or not. I want this house to be a home now, not a renovation project. Not so much for me but for my kids.
This is my backyard. The garden is way way way in the back and it is a shared plot but we will get to the actual garden in a moment
What an ordeal. You know whenever you take on a new venture, isn't it funny how something always tries to come in and make you believe it was a complete mistake to even give it a try. Usually I become tormented with frustration and thoughts of failure. Well Monday morning I walked down to the garden because the neighbors had the rototiller out and I thought I would give it a whirl. I had never operated one of those things before ugh.. So the neighbor guy says, go ahead and drive it forward. Well I grip on nice and tight my hand to the plow literally and moved forward. At the end of the row the rototiller pukes so the guy says just pull the cord but I couldn't get a grip on the thing. The guy notices and says just hang on to the gas cap, so I reach over to what I assumed was the gas cap and it was NOT.. It was the engine and I wrapped my entire hand around this thing and my hand was burned. I was completely engulfed with agonizing pain and I immediately began to cry and run to my house far far away:).. I burst through the front door, face all red, and began running my hand under cold water but the pain was not going away. Yes, the burn was pretty bad. I noticed a black mark where the burned had singed my skin. What a way to begin my new adventures in gardening.

The Herb Garden
I was totally inspired to do an herb garden because I found that working with fresh herbs creates amazing tasting food and a few heath for the mix. In this herb garden I added Cilantro which is growing in the smaller pot.

List of Cilantro Benefits:

  • Powerful anti-inflammatory capacities that may help symptoms of arthritis
  • Protective agents against bacterial infection from Salmonella in food products
  • Acts to increase HDL cholesterol (the good kind), and reduces LDL cholesterol (the bad kind)
  • Relief for stomach gas, prevention of flatulence and an overall digestive aid
  • Wards off urinary tract infections
  • Helps reduce feelings of nausea
  • Eases hormonal mood swings associated with menstruation
  • Has been shown to reduce menstrual cramping.
  • Adds fiber to the digestive tract
  • A source of iron, magnesium, and is helpful in fighting anemia
  • Gives relief for diarrhea, especially if caused by microbial or fungal infections
  • Helps promote healthy liver function.
  • Reduces minor swelling
  • Strong general antioxidant properties
  • Disinfects and helps detoxify the body
  • Stimulates the endocrine glands
  • Helps with insulin secretion and lowers blood sugar
  • Acts as a natural anti-septic and anti-fungal agent for skin disorders like fungal infections and eczema
  • Contains immune-boosting properties
  • Acts as an expectorant
  • Helps ease conjunctivitis, as well as eye-aging, muscular degeneration, and other stressors on the eyes @ Global Healing center
How can you not love the healing benefits of cilantro?...Another thing I planted was oregano and chives.. Yummm.. Anddd Best of all.. Fresh Mint.. Mint contains a truckload of vitamins and minerals, which are vital to a healthy body. Mint is full of Vitamins A and C and also contains smaller traces of Vitamin B2. Vitamin C is an important antioxidant . Mint also contains a wide range of essential minerals such as manganese, copper, iron, potassium and calcium.
Lemon Thyme and Basil are awesome together. You need to try it in a marinade for chicken

Lastly some pictures of my Huge, Beautiful, Succulent garden. I am praying that the Lord would produce an amazing harvest although this is my first time with the gardening thing so I believe I will be learning along the way what to do and what NOT to do...
Peppers

Pickling Cucumbers
Red Cabbage

We also have tomatoes galore, a heap load of beets and beans and of course who could forget lettuce. I am sure looking forward to sharing updates on the progress of my garden:)

Don't forget to Intentionally Inspire yourself today...
